Quality Mark FAQs

1.Why should your organisation obtain the investing in governance quality mark?

The investing in governance quality mark shows funders, beneficiaries and other stakeholders that the organisations governance policies, processes and procedures reflect best practice and place the organisation in high standing.

Investing in Governance is the only quality mark which focuses solely on the governance of the organisation. The framework complies with the guidelines set out in the various codes of good practice, including the code of good governance and the Higgs review.

2. How can your organisation undertake the investing in governance quality mark process?

The quality mark assessment process takes place in three stages:

  1. the board undertakes a self-assessment using the investing in governance framework;
  2. the board reviews the results of the governance self-assessment and develops an action plan to put the necessary changes in policies, practices and procedures in place to meet the standard;
  3. the board compiles documentary evidence to support an external assessment of the governance practices including interviews with board members.

3. What support is provided to help organisations achieve the quality mark?

Once the organisation has registered for the investing in governance quality mark an external assessor will be appointed to provide ongoing support.

The Investing in Governance Coach will:

  1. present the Investing in Governance accreditation process at a board meeting;
  2. provide ongoing information and support over the phone or by e-mail during the registration period;
  3. review the board's "evidence" in line with the Investing in Governance evaluation framework and interview three members of the board. The Coach will produce a summary report highlighting the strengths of the board's governance and make a recommendation of the award of the quality mark to the Investing in Governance Accreditation Committee.
  4. report back to the board on the outcome of the Investing in Governance Accreditation Committee decision to award the quality mark;
  5. ensure that the board receives a quality mark certificate, plaque and a three year licence to use the quality mark for publicity and promotional purposes.

4. Can the board be provided with additional support?

Additional coaching support is available to enable boards to work through specific issues and develop appropriate policies and procedures as required. Please contact us for further information.
